Obituary of Dorice Ruth White
~~Dorice Ruth White, 94,passed away Thursday July 27, 2017 in Round Rock, Texas.
Memorial graveside services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday August 5, 2017 at Oaklawn Cemetery in Cooper, Texas.
Dorice was born June 9, 1923 in Cooper to Claude C. and Ruby Ellen “Wester” Pickens. She grew up happily in Cooper, Texas along with her sisters Inez Bettes(dec), Patsy Barton (dec) , Laverne Rush (dec) and brother Joe Pickens(dec). She was married to Jessie W. “Jack” Bates in 1941 and later blessed with four children (3 daughters and a son). Jack passed away suddenly in 1966 and Dorice was then cast in the roll of raising their four children alone and becoming their champion. In 1969, she was married to Cliff White(dec) of Dallas, Texas. She worked in the corporate offices of Safeway, Inc. in Dallas for many years and retired from there in 1988.
Dorice was an active member of the White Rock United Methodist Church in Dallas and the United Methodist Women. She served as the sunshine person for her Sunday School Class “The Busy Mrs.” that later became the Harmony class. She helped lead hymns and was a fine singer. In her youth, her daddy and two sisters sang gospel music on the local radio in the Delta County area.
She held a firm belief in Jesus Christ, her savior. She prayed daily and always thanked God for every meal that He provided. She instilled her beliefs into her children and her love for her children through her Lord sustained and led her to her long, rich life.
She is survived by three daughters; Claudia Ford and her husband Charles of Austin, TX, Leslie Hahn and her husband Steve of Dallas, TX and Jackie Oleson and her husband Steve of Austin,Tx, daughter-in-law Michelle Bates, five grandchildren, Jessica Halley, Rocky and Bradley Rosga, Keisha and Emma Bates, and one great- granddaughter, Charlie Blue Halley. Her son, Joseph Bates preceded her in death by 8 months.
