Obituary of Hugh Charles Whitney

~~Hugh Charles Whitney, 79, of Cooper, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2017 at 11:11pm.
Hugh, also known as Hugh Charlie or "the Judge", was born to Charles Houston and Grace Malone Whitney on September 13, 1937 in Paris, Texas, where he graduated from Paris High School. On December 1, 1967 he married Virginia Lou Kennedy Kinzie, the love of his life for 43 years, with whom he has finally been reunited after her early departure in 2010.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, and sisters and spouses Dean and Hank Smolarz, Merle and Robert Glass, Dorthy and Harry Fry, and Melba and Dub Moore.
He is survived by his sons, Justin Whitney of Austin, Texas, Michael Kinzie and wife Amy Kinzie of Houston, Texas, daughter Laura Kinzie and husband Sergio Cortes of Dallas, Texas, sister Robbie and husband LV Morrow of Paris, Texas, grandchildren Shawn, Caitlin, Meagan, and Riley, great-granddaughter Kira, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Hugh served his country as a young man in the United States Air Force. After starting his career in law enforcement as a Sheriff's Deputy, he rose through the ranks of the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, retiring in 1993. He soon after moved to Cooper, where he opened a shop on the town square before retiring again. He ran for office and was elected Delta County Judge, serving two terms with dignity and distinction before retiring for good, after which he could regularly be seen riding around town in his red pickup.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for 1:00 pm Saturday, August 5, 2017 at First Baptist Church in Cooper.
