Obituary of Lucile Ratliff Foster

~~Lucile Ratliff Foster passed away at age 101 on August 4, 2017.  Born July 10, 1916 in Ladonia, TX to Walter Cleveland Ratliff and Lucille Neilson Ratliff.  She was delivered at her grandparents’ home by her grandfather, Dr. S.B. Neilson.  She graduated from Cooper High School and Texas State College for Women (now TWU).  She received her master’s degree from East Texas State Teachers College (now Texas A&M, Commerce).  Lucy was a former teacher, Girl Scout leader, Campfire Girls leader and volunteer.  She was an active member of the Plymouth Park Baptist Church of Irving for over 50 years where she taught children’s Sunday school classes and was involved in WMU.  She was known for her spunk and high energy and loved musicals, travel, shopping, playing bridge, lunching with friends and cheering for the Dallas Cowboys.  She was great fun to be around, with a sparkling sense of humor that was enjoyed by her many friends and family.  She moved to Presbyterian Village North in 2004 and was active in the life of that community for the past thirteen years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 53 years, Thomas Grady Foster (1994), and her brother, B. Truman Ratliff.  She is survived by: her daughters, Marilyn Foster Lookadoo (Don) of Dallas, and Nancy Foster Martin (Rob) of Houston, grandchildren, Elizabeth Lookadoo DeVries (Thomas) and Dr. Kathryn Lookadoo Wollaeger (Jim), great grandchildren, Nathan and Andrew DeVries.  She is also survived by her brother, Samuel C. Ratliff, and many nephews and nieces.  Her family is especially grateful to her loving aide, Ruth Ochuodho, former aide, Shuma Khan, and to the staff and nurses at Presbyterian Village North.  These people and many other caregivers became part of her extended family.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Presbyterian Village North Foundation, 8600 Skyline Drive, Dallas, TX 75243.  A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, August 12 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Presbyterian Village North, 8600 Skyline Drive, Dallas, TX 75243 followed by a reception.
