Obituary of Harry Glen Scoggins

 

        

 

 

           Harry Glen Scoggins of Detroit, Texas, passed away on Thursday, May 3, 2018.  He was 88 years old. 

Services are scheduled for Saturday, May 5, 2018 at the Delta Funeral Home in Cooper.  Visitation will be at 12:30 p.m., and the service will be at 1:30 p.m.  Burial will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Paris.         

Harry was born on February 16, 1930 in Pecan Gap, Texas to Arthur Monroe and Ollie Mae “Tevis” Scoggins.  He graduated from Pecan Gap High School with 7 male and 2 female classmates.  He played six man football and basketball for PGHS.  Harry joined the Army thereafter and served at Fort Bliss, Fort Hansford, and Geiger Air Force Base with a duty of guarding an atomic bomb. 

            He married Nora Faye Burrow in Paris on July 15, 1950 and she survives him.  They enjoyed 67 years of marriage, residing in Mesquite for 26 years.

            They retired to Detroit in 1992.  Harry drove over three million miles for Sears Line Haul in Dallas.  He was a 42-year employee at Sears.  Harry is survived by their three sons, Dan and his wife Judy of Frankston, Texas, David and his wife Ines of Allen, Texas, and Don and his wife Cindi of Mansfield, Texas.  He is also survived by seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, an older brother, and six sisters. 

            Harry and Nora were among the founding members of St. Stephens United Methodist Church in Mesquite and in 1992 joined the Martin Memorial Methodist church in Detroit.
