Obituary of Ella Beth Baxter

Ella Beth Baxter 88 of Little Elm passed away Monday December 24, 2018.

Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday December 28, 2018 at the Delta Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the LaDonia Cemetery. 

Family will recieve friends one hour prior to the service at the Chapel. 

Mom was born on February 10, 1930 in a small town of St. Jo, Texas to John and Minnie Walton. She was number six out of eight children. She had beautiful long red hair. She grew up working in the cotton fields in Chillichothe, Texas where as a teenager her and her sisters would wait for the trains to come by and waive at the soldiers as they would go through town. One time she saw President Roosevelt. She met our dad when she was 16. They dated a short time before they were married on February 8, 1947. They had four children.

Mom was blessed to never have to work outside the home. She would keep kids or iron clothes for others. We remember several times of opening up the refrigerator and would be clothes in a plastic bag waiting to be ironed. As a child growing up we always knew she would be home for us after school, because she didn’t drive. If she needed to go get one of us from school she would call a taxi. But when she was in her 40’s she got her beginner license and had them for 18 years, she thought the city has too many cars.

Mom and dad through the years would open their home to nephews and friends of ours that needed a home for a while. At one time there was 18 living in a small house with only one bathroom! Mom did all the cooking. The nephews all loved her homemade gravy and biscuits she made before they left out in the morning.

Mom loved all her grandchildren. They called her Mem-maw. She loved seeing them and had pictures to show everyone. She loved living in the country of Ladonia with my dad when he was a ranch hand. She helped with the cows, yard work and that’s where she finally got her driver license. The country was where the kids and grandkids have the most memories of them. They loved going there.

She moved in 2001 to Little Elm, Texas after our dad passed away. They were married for 54 years. She lived in a couple of apartments before she found her home at Lakeside Manor Apartments. They were new and she was the first one to move in. She loved all of her friends and could not wait to get to the clubhouse to see what was going on. She had her own chair to sit in next to her best friend Joe that was 97. They would play bingo on Tuesday and go to Walmart on Wednesday. They had pot luck on the last Friday of the month that Cross Ridge Church would bring. She was a people person, she loved life, she would always say “I’m sitting on ready”. You never knew what she was going to say and she spoke her mind….and made everyone laugh!

She loved going to the Walton Reunion every year and could not wait to go to see everyone. She only missed one in 45 years due to being in the hospital.

Mom lived 88 full of life years and will be deeply missed by everyone.

We thank God for giving us a Mom like you, we would not have changed one thing. We love you and our memories with you will always be in our hearts.
