Obituary of Barry Ray Wood

Barry Ray Wood

Barry was born February 9, 1949.  With his family by his side, he went to be with the Lord on January 2, 2019, at the age of 69.  He was preceded in death by his parents Billy and Frances Wood, long time residents of Hamilton, Texas, a daughter, and a son. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Barbara, along with his son Bryan and wife Leslie, including his 5 grandchildren: Arlie, Heidi, Denver, Dan, and Whitney, all of Charleston, Texas, a brother, Chris Wood of San Antonio, Texas, a sister, Pam and brother-in-law Rusty White of Waco, Texas, and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family who he loved dearly.

Barry battled Alzheimer’s for over nine years and was cared for by his wife and family.  For the last three years and final moments of his life, the caregivers from Birchwood Nursing Home of Cooper, Texas, dedicated their love and support to Barry.

Barry and Barbara were high school sweethearts in Hamilton, Texas, from their junior year onward.  Mr. Chumney, their chemistry teacher allowed them to share a work table.  Barry's eyes were always on Barbara.  There were many fun times with classmates hanging out at Jordan Pharmacy on the square, guitar playing, picnics, or just cruising around in his Ford Starliner, which always needed a water bottle handy for the radiator.

He graduated from Hamilton High School in 1967 and headed off to North Texas State University still keeping his eyes on Barbara.  They were married on November 28, 1969.  Then in 1970, he headed off to San Antonio to begin his advertising career with the newspaper San Antonio Light.  He worked as an Advertising Executive from 1970-2009 throughout the Southeast.Barry's favorite past times were reading, drinking coffee, sailing on area lakes, going to the beach, playing guitar, and listening to Jimmy Buffet.  Most of all, Barry cherished his family and friends.
