Obituary of Larry Conley

Larry Conley, of Cooper, Texas passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, May 1, 2019. He was the son of Willie and Noel Conley, born on October 12, 1940.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2019 at First Baptist Church in Cooper, Texas with Rev. Johnny Witherspoon officiating. Interment will be in Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of Delta Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 1 – 2 p.m. prior to services at First Baptist Church.

Larry married his high school sweetheart, Kaywin Wilson, on August 25, 1961. They were married for 57 years. He would often stop on the driveway to call and tell Kaywin that her flowers looked mighty pretty before bringing in some roses. Larry and Kaywin loved each other with their whole hearts.

Larry graduated from Cooper High School in 1959 and went to auctioneer school. He was an auctioneer for years as well as the owner and operator of the Laramy Meat Co. for 20 years.

The job that truly defined Larry was being a rancher for all of his adult life. Through this job he made a lasting impact on those that walked with him. He taught all the grandkids how to drive in a pasture, even if they almost drove into a pond. Larry also taught his daughter and grandkids how to tag and work the cattle. The most valuable things he instilled in his family were hard work, integrity, honesty and the best breakfast is a glass of good chocolate. For those that worked cattle with Larry, he was known to lead by example with his strong Christian values. It has been said that they don’t make cowboys like Larry anymore and that he would want to work hard every day until he meets Jesus.

He was a devout Christian who loved his Lord. He has been a member of the First Baptist Church of Cooper since he was 8 years old.

Larry was a loving husband, father, grandfather (Pops), brother, and friend. The stories and memories that Larry leaves behind are one of a kind. It could be leaving a pig tail in his sister, Gretchen’s bed, saying that he owned the highway to Commerce before getting a ticket, or leaving Michelle and her friends in a graveyard on Halloween…he did come back and get them.

His children were Lisa Michelle Strong and Noel Scott Conley; grandchildren, Lauren Elizabeth Clark, Shannon Marie Strong, Daniel Conley Strong and Madison Rachel Conley.

Larry was part of a large family with the following siblings, Patsy Shaw, Gennel Ham, Sue Horchem, Gretchin Bills, Stephen Conley, Mickie Smith, Vickie Anderson, Debbie Nelson, Beckie Alvarez, He is preceded in death by his sisters, Billie Clark and Twyla Foster.
