Obituary of Bobbie Shaffer Rainey

Bobbie Shaffer Rainey of Spring Lake Assisted Living in Paris, formerly of Cooper, went to her Heavenly home on Monday, April 1, 2019, at the age of 91 years and 11 days. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m.  Friday, April 5, 2019 at First Baptist Church, Cooper, Texas with Reverend Johnny Witherspoon and Reverend Lyn Holly officiating, with burial to follow in Cooper’s Oaklawn Cemetery. Family visitation will be 6 – 8 p.m.  Thursday, April 4, 2019 at the Delta Funeral Home Chapel.

Bobbie Lee Lancaster was born March 21, 1928 to Richard and Ella Mae (Glaspie) Lancaster, five miles west of Cooper. She graduated in 1944 from Cooper High School as class valedictorian. Following high school, Bobbie worked as a bookkeeper for Barton Good Magnolia Oil Company and later as the secretary at First Baptist Church in Cooper. She married Stanley Shaffer on December 5, 1948. Later they moved back out west of Cooper where Stanley farmed and ranched, until his death on May 1, 1986. Starting in 1970, Bobbie was employed by Cooper ISD in a variety of positions until her retirement in the late 1990’s.

God blessed Bobbie and Stanley with four children. The children and their spouses are Martha Jane & Danny Moore of Conroe; James Richard (Jimmy) and Nancy (Little) Shaffer of Terrell; Joe Bob and Teresa (Day) Shaffer of Charleston; and John David and Loretta (Grissom) Shaffer of Cooper.

She is also survived by ten grandchildren: Brian Moore, Eric Moore, Angela (Moore) Walton, Michelle (Moore) Taylor, Amber (Shaffer) Pierce, Chance Shaffer, Heath Shaffer, Hadley Shaffer, Hayley Shaffer, and Rami Shaffer. In addition, Bobbie was blessed with sixteen great-grandchildren.

On July 20, 1990, Bobbie married Billie Jim Rainey. He passed away on March 27, 1999. Bobbie is survived by five step-children: Ann Blair of Mt. Vernon; Barbara Taylor of Sulphur Springs; Steve Rainey of Klondike; Lisa Taylor of Mt. Vernon and Jim Rainey of Charleston.

Preceding Bobbie in death, in addition to her parents and two loving husbands, were her siblings: Etah Lancaster Woodall of Cooper; Lucille Lancaster Hennen of Cooper; Gene Lancaster Shaw of Cooper; Ophelia Lancaster of Cooper; and Billy Joe Lancaster of Longview.

Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons-in-law: Brian Moore, Eric Moore, Chuck Walton, Dave Taylor, Heath Shaffer, Hadley Shaffer, Chance Shaffer and Mark Pierce.

The family would like to express gratitude for their care and concern to Waterford Hospice and to the Spring Lake Assisted Living family.
